What We Are & What we do

Executive Summary & Local Vision

The 4GB Cyberdeck Coding Lab is a hands-on, 6-week youth technology program designed to transform local students from passive consumers of technology into hardware-capable programmers. By pairing physical, open-hardware computing kits (powered by CanaKit platforms) with applied Python coding and Minecraft server scripting, youth build their own physical computer terminals ("cyberdecks") and use code to solve interactive challenges.

Unlike generic digital curricula, this program is custom-tailored to the cultural and physical landscape of Beaverlodge and the wider Peace Country:

  • Localized Coding Challenges: Students learn Python terminal commands, Linux navigation, and automation by coding 3D pixel-art replicas of iconic local landmarks, including the Giant Beaver Statue and local Grain Elevators, within a customized Minecraft sandbox.
  • Bridging the Urban-Rural Tech Gap: Rural students often lack access to specialized hardware and robotics labs available in major urban centers. This initiative brings practical hardware assembly, circuit wiring, and system administration directly to Beaverlodge youth.
  • School  & Civic Integration: The program serves as an enrichment bridge for Home School students as well as students attending Beaverlodge Elementary, St. Mary's Catholic School and Beaverlodge Regional High School.
